Product Description
The Tri-Angle Sharpmaker includes two sets of high alumina ceramic stones: A pair of medium-grit (brown) stones for aggressive sharpening and a set of fine (white) stones for professional grade finishing. The stones are triangular for sharpening Plainedges on the flat sides and SpyderEdges (serrations) on the corners. Included is a set of brass safety rods protecting the users hands while sharpening. All components snap into the self-contained ABS plastic base and lid — ready to travel with you. Die-cut into the base are keyed slots and holes fitted for the stones. They accurately set the stone’s sharpening angle at a 30° (15° each side) or 40° (20° each side) for knives and a 12.5° scissor setting. Turn the base over, a channel lets you lay two stones side-by-side (flat-side up) for use as a benchstone. The lid snaps halfway over the base creating a handhold for stability while you’re sharpening. Included is a set of brass safety rods to protect the users hands while sharpening. Ceramic stones, like glass, will break if dropped — handle carefully. Use them dry, without oil, water or lubricants. To clean: scrub stones with a plastic scouring pad and powered abrasive cleaner, let air-dry.

I recently purchased the Spyderco Sharpmaker and without a doubt it is one of the easiest sharpening systems to use. Previously, I used a flat stone coated with oil. However, with the recent purchase of some serrated knives I needed a system to sharpen them. The Sharpmaker does it all: plain blades, serrated blades, and more. With the video and instructions it is easy to use. One last testimonial concerning the Sharpmaker, is a old Buck knife that I had buried in the drawer. I never liked the edge on the knife; never could get it sharp. The knife is now on my dresser, sharp as a razor and ready to go!

Before buying the Spyderco 204 I researched sharpeners because I wanted to get one that was easy to use but would put a long-lasting edge on kitchen, hunting, pocket knives. Most sharpeners are more trouble to operate than they are worth, or don’t do a decent job, or worse, damage knives in the process. The Spyderco was recommended as being the easiest to use for the best results. It is simple to set up and use and comes with a video that shows you exactly how to operate it which is a big help. It sharpens my knives very effectively. Best of all, the plastic base that came with mine was defective, so I sent it back and the company replaced the entire case promptly.

The Sharpmaker is well named. I have tried very hard to make my Lansky Deluxe system work but only got fair results at best. I used the Sharpmaker on a knife I had very carefully sharpened on the Lansky and saw an immediate and profound improvement. I am an engineer and was drawn to the Lansky angle control system believing that I would have best control with this system. However, in practice, the Sharpmaker gives outstanding results quickly and easily. You literally will be able to get your knives sharper than when they were new and unused. Very few products deliver on the level of the Sharpmaker. Great product. Sharpens more than just knives as well. Watch the DVD as soon as you get it. Then you’ll want to sharpen everything in the house. You’ll be hooked.

Spyderco sharpener and hone is a wonderful tool. I own several stones and a couple of other sharpening gadgets but nothing has put an edge on my knives like the Spyderco. Like many I am sure, I was a skeptic, but after following the instructional video my fishing and kitchen knives are now razor sharp, much sharper than new. Thanks so much.

Our previous knife sharpener disappeared during a kitchen remodel a year ago, and all efforts to find it were in vain. Love this product. Have been using it for a about 6 month now. It works fast and I was able to get the feel for sharpening my henkel and wusthof kitchen knives. I even bring this with me when I go over to my relatives. They love their knives when I am done with them. Takes a little getting used to sharpening by hand, but once you do there is no turning back. I now keep all my knives razor sharp. Two different grades of the stone are fantastic. I would definitely recommend this product.

Bought this item for use on carbide blades for my table saw. It’s almost too thick for that job so you may want to look for something thinner. Sharpening knives and plane blades is another story, 30 seconds and you’re done. The whole thing is really handy, no oil, no mess. When you’re done, fold it up and throw it back in the drawer. Nice.

This product is great…easy to store, easy to use, very portable…the cover is built in. Due to the high quality diamond surface it sharpens much faster than a regular sharpener, it doesn’t require any additional oils(just water if you want to), just rinse off the polka dot pattern of what’s left from sharpening and you’re done. It’s handy to have around the house to do a ‘quick few strokes’ to sharpen whatever tool you happen to be using. The sharpener has 2 grits built in. I like that it’s made in the US.

Why is there a cancer warning about nickel in the product? Is there a risk to the person using the sharpener if she inhales dust?

I have not seen this sharpener since I used to use one on the sportfishing boats I worked on.Back then,I paid alot more than this.And im talking 10 years ago.Its a great product.

This item works great for sharpening a multitude of sizes and types of knives. It was a little smaller than I expected, which makes it a little harder to use.

I was a little disappointed with this when I opened it because I was expecting a much larger stone. I have some very large butcher knives that are a challenge to sharpen on this little stone, however, I made it work and my knives are back to “scary status”.

This is the best, most versatile, sharpening system on the market. With a little practice anyone can put an extremely sharp edge on any knife or chisel. Beautifully designed and functional.

This is the best sharpener money can buy. If you have never sharpened a knife by hand, it includes a guide for assistance.

This sharpener is well made. Although somewhat small for large knives it performs adequately. Included extras (honing guide and oil) were appreciated and useful. I would recommend this item to consumers with basic knife sharpening needs. Might not be suitable for commercial use or large cutlery.

Sharpens your knife razor sharp and leaves a nice polished finish too. It’s handy to have 3 different grade stones, depending on how dull your blade is. It was shipped fairly fast with standard shipping. Only problem is it does not have rubber stoppers on the bottom, so it might slide across your surface you have it on. Overall a great buy and a must have for keeping your knives sharp.

I am extremely happy with the product. I am a complete novice at sharpening knives manually and this put a very keen edge on my crappy Henkel (not 4 star or Pro-S, just the stamped steel) knives in a very little while. I did not use a honing guide, I did it manually, so the knives aren’t “stupid sharp” but that is due to the operator. Watch the videos on you-tube to see how the experts do it. I did buy this packaged with the stone holder, and it really worked well in keeping the work from sliding around on the counter top. Overall an excellent product. I need to buy a strop and a diamond plate to reset the stone surface, but that is another story.

I rated this stone 4 stars. First of all i like the fact it had 2 grits on both sides. It sharpened to a mirror like finish. However waterstone tend to wear very easily, and the thickness of each grits is only 1/2 inch. The overall stone was 1 in so each side has 1/2 inch of the stone. The waterstone wore out very quick resulting in my lapping my stone every 3-4 chisel or plane irons.

I have resisted hand tools and chisels in general because I could never get them sharp enough and it took forever. A friend showed me how easy it was to tune one up on a water stone (once they have been hollow ground) and I was amazed at how little time and what good results came from it. Now, I use chisels and feel it slice the fiber instead of tear it. The combination 1000/6000 stone may not last overly long, but I’ll get dedicated thicker ones when the time comes because water stones are the way as far as I’m concerned.

This is just what my husband wanted. It works well, and is very durable. The company is really great too, we had to re-route the package and without there help and patience with me it would have never happened. Thank you for the great service.

Where have these stones been all my life? They are 100 times better than regular sharpening stones. Excellent product.

I have tried several brands of sanding disc with poor results. Mirka sand fast with very little clogging in fact it works so well you can use the next finer grit with less stress on the sander. I prefer PSA V/S hook & loop.
