Cheapest Dorcy 49-1035 Lantern Rechargeable Xenon

So far, so good!
This lantern looks like a twin to one we bought a number of years ago from Sears, except it was much less expensive. We charged it for the requisite number of hours when first receiving it several months ago, and it's been working fine.

Rugged, bright light, narrow beam
This is a rugged well built lantern. I like that it uses a sealed lead acid battery for plenty of power. Make sure you keep it on the charger when not in use as lead acid batteries don't like full discharge. The light is very bright with a long throw. However it is better for distance lighting beyond several yards than close up lighting as the beam is very narrow even though the reflector is a large diameter. The case is a rugged material which will take a beating and is held together with bolts. I'm concerned that the case is not gasketed so I don't know how that will affect the operation in wet weather. The switch seems to be well sealed though. I'm hoping this will last many years as I'm tired of buying flashlights and having them crap out.

I love this flashlight
I got tired of reaching for flashlights wherein the batteries were dead. This latern not only performs well but holds a charge for months. I bought this item 4 months ago and it is always ready to use. I have just put it on recharge even though it was still operating well. I just want to be ready in the case of a power outage. I find the lantern form factor to be very convenient, the square shape allows for set down and the built in handle makes it very comfortable to use.

The light output of this item is spectacular and serves well for general purpose use. I would highly recommennd this product to anyone needing a general purpose light with good battery life. For the price, it is a great value.

Reliable and durable
As someone who uses a flashlight in my work, I need one that won't fail on me. Most flashlights of this size have batteries and bulbs held in by springs. Once you drop such a flashlight, either the bulb or the battery becomes intermittent. Also, the lenses and reflectors of most cheaper flashlights are not well-sealed, so over time the beam becomes dimmer and more diffused. While the square edges of the Dorcy Lantern are great for positioning it in most lighting situations, it would also be nice to have a fold-out tripod device for pointing it at an angle and a hook for suspending it from something when the situation requires it.
