It’s been 6+ months since I bought 2 of these meters but I’m now giving them a good rating. My initial use of these hydrometers was producing readings that seemed inaccurate. I’ve just recently tested them with 190 proof grain alcohol and precisely controlled amounts of water/alcohol mixes. Both are a bit off but are well within the tolerance of what they are needed for. One of the two reads 4 “proofs” high and the other, 6 high. For anyone that might not be familiar with using this type of meter like me, you’ll find that using a graduated cylinder that is taller than the hydrometer very helpful. There must be enough room for the meter to float plus an inch or so. Trying to measure the alcohol content from the liquor bottle may not be the best method to get an accurate readying, as sensible as that may seem on the outset. You may also find that removing the contaminants from the test liquid would provide better results. As for the hydrometers, they are a good value and work well if you can validate them yourself and can accept a few points of tolerance in the readings. Don’t buy one, buy two.
